The Greenest is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards so that everyone — regardless of ability — can access the information, products, and ideas that help them live a cleaner, healthier life.
Our commitment
We work toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, cognitive, language, learning, neurological, physical, and speech disabilities. Conformance with WCAG also makes our site more usable for older users with changing abilities.
Measures we take
To make our site as accessible as possible, we:
- Provide descriptive alt text on the photographs, illustrations, and infographics published across our articles and reviews.
- Use semantic HTML (proper heading hierarchy, lists, landmarks) so that screen readers and assistive technologies can interpret our pages correctly.
- Aim for WCAG-aligned color contrast between text and background, including in our editorial sections, callouts, and recipe cards.
- Support keyboard navigation across our menus, search, and core interactive elements.
- Use a base body font size of 20 pixels on article pages so longer-form content remains readable without zooming.
- Write in plain, concrete language and avoid unnecessary jargon. Studies and statistics are linked to their primary sources so readers using assistive technologies can verify and explore them.
- Review accessibility as part of our editorial process when we ship new templates, widgets, and design changes.
Third-party content and limitations
Some content on The Greenest is provided by third parties, including embedded video players, social media widgets, advertising, and affiliate product modules. We are not able to fully control or guarantee the accessibility of that third-party content. Where we identify a third-party element that creates an accessibility barrier, we work to find an accessible alternative or to remove it.
Some older articles published before our current accessibility standards may not yet meet every WCAG 2.1 Level AA criterion. As we refresh and update older content, we bring it in line with our current standards.
Tell us about an accessibility issue
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of The Greenest. If you encounter a barrier or have a suggestion to help us improve, please get in touch:
- Email: [email protected]
- Subject line: Please include “Accessibility” so we can route your message quickly.
- Response time: We aim to respond within 3 business days.
When reporting an issue, it helps us if you can share the page URL, the device and browser you were using, and a brief description of the barrier you experienced.
Ongoing work
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time checkbox. We continue to learn, test, and refine — and we appreciate the community of readers who help us do better.
